Every planet and star sign has corresponding crystals that share their energetic resonance. Think of it this way: The planets are massive, heavenly rocks that influence the energy fields on Earth, while crystals are massive, inner-earth rocks that can also influence our bodies here on the Earth’s surface. In other words, just as the big planetary rocks in the heavens are an astrological macrocosm of our lives, the rocks below us in the earth are a microcosm of our experience. Consciously working with crystals and gemstones that correlate with the energy of each astrological season can benefit the mind, body and spirit.
As crystals form within the earth, rocks and minerals are in a constant process of transformation: creation, change and dissolution. The zodiac reflects this process from the spark of the birth of Aries (the first sign of the zodiac), the growth through the signs, and the completion and undoing in Pisces (the twelfth sign).
The Taurus Resonance:
This year, the Sun is in Taurus from April 22-May 23, shifting our focus away from the bold, leadership-driven nature of fiery Aries, shifting our attention from the Aries “I Am” to the Taurus “I Have,” by way of the things we value, how we earn a living, how we show up in the world, and our personal preferences for our creature comforts. After exploring our ego and identity during Aries season, earthy Taurus helps us to solidify it. Security-seeking Taurus is the persistent provider of the zodiac that loves life’s earthy pleasures, helping us to ground our lofty dreams in practicality.
Stabilizing Taurus can also help us simplify and make smarter financial decisions. But don’t mistake the slower pace for passivity. When you see a goal worth pursuing, make like el Toro and charge!
Ruled by the hardworking Bull and sensual Venus, Taurus will patiently assess whether something is worth the investment of their time and resources. Chief among the traits of a Taurus is their built-in energy conservation program, which can be as sensual and elegant as it is overindulgent and lazy.
As a grounded fixed sign, Taurus sets up a solid goal or foundation and then builds from the ground up. Fixed signs can take the enthusiastic ideas that cardinal signs like independent Aries can spark, and then craft them into something real. They pick up the ball when the cardinal sign passes it, and run the distance to the goal. Taurus season connects us to that which represents our inner sense of worth, as well as aligning us with our grounding to the earth. Key themes for the season include: Deliberation. Sustenance. Glamour. Physicality. Materiality. Steady progress. Wealth. Comfort. Sensuality. Earthiness. Beauty. Endurance.
Just as new habits take about a month to become ingrained, working with a crystal for several weeks helps your body to integrate the new vibration in conjunction with the stone. Working with the 28-day moon cycles is ideal, especially for women. Or you could start working with a new stone at the beginning of the month, or the start of a zodiac season—or of course, whenever it feels intuitively right.
Healing Crystals for Taurus Season (April 22-May 23)
Crystals form when liquid magma from the earth’s core moves toward the surface, cools down to solidify, then crystallizes over millions of years.
Green aventurine and kyanite are the two crystals I recommend for Taurus. These crystals resonate with all those born during this solar phase, those with strong Taurus energy in their charts, or anyone who wants to tap into that fixed earth energy now, or at any time of year.
Properties of Healing Crystals
The Taurus/May birthstone is emerald, but green aventurine is a great, easily-accessible crystal for Taurus energy. The name aventurine comes from the Italian term “a ventura,” which means “randomly” and refers to its randomly deposited plates of fuchsite/chromium mica, which gives the stone a shimmery, sparkling appearance. It comes in many colors, from blue, to red, to peach, brown, and white, but green aventurine is the particular crystal I recommend for earthy Taurus.
Green aventurine enhances relaxation, regeneration and recovery, which are all basic tenets of the Taurean desire to indulge in its creature comforts. Taurus energy is known for being slow to anger, and aventurine works well with this theme as it bestows patience in times of annoyance.
Taurus has a reputation for being strong-willed and fixed, and aventurine is a crystal which encourages expansion and adventure. It is a great stone for reflection, and enhancing cheerfulness and good humor, which can benefit any stubborn Bull.
Kyanite comes in multiple colors, such as grey, black and green, but the blue kyanite in particular aligns well with Taurean earth energy.
Physically, kyanite is a stone that does not hold on to lower vibrational energies, and does not require cleansing and neutralizing like other stones may. This is a great counter reflection for Taurus, since this sign tends to hold firmly to what it feels it knows.
Kyanite dispels both physical and energetic blockages, and is said to aid in disorders of the throat, brain and muscular systems. This is highly beneficial for Taurus, as this zodiac energy tends to remain fixed in what is familiar and may become closed off to anything new. While the steadfastness of Taurus is necessary for sustenance on the physical plane, it helps us to take the solid nature of Taurus but build upon it in other ways.
When Taurus’ solid, unchangeable nature comes into play, working with kyanite’s calm but expansive nature can bestow feelings of tranquility in meditation and relaxation, and can help the user to cooperate with others who see things differently. Since Taurus is so grounded in the earth realm, kyanite is beneficial in encouraging the user to open to their intuition and see the benefits beyond the material world.
Kyanite helps quiet the mind, restore stillness, and cultivate balance when Taurus energy feels stagnant or stuck. This stone’s association with Venus brings a sense of lightness and a connection to the spiritual realm.
Taurus is ruled by Venus, the planet of love, beauty, and value—and also pertains to the second house of that which brings us income and our ways of being compensated in the world.
Aventurine is a potent crystal to use in money magic and rituals. As the green-gold, money-colored stone of good fortune, aventurine has been used in antiquity to cultivate financial stability and has even been referred to as the “gambler’s stone.” Historically, merchants would keep a piece of green aventurine in or near a cash register to increase their sales and sustain and maintain a steady flow of money, just as Taurus energy desires so deeply. Using aventurine in a money-drawing altar is also a beneficial way to work with the stone.
The fixed modality of Taurus is patient and tenacious; if any sign can take its time, this is the one! However, the Taurean tendency to become obsessed with the accumulation of material things can prevent this sign from knowing its inherent self-worth and value. Aventurine works wonderfully in stimulating creativity and increasing perception, so that the person working with it can see their true spiritual value beyond the material, while also building their castles on the physical realm.
Physically, Taurus rules the neck, throat and voice, and blue kyanite resonates with the throat chakra. As a mystical stone, kyanite is the stone of attunement and higher insight. Taurus has a tendency to become stuck in the earthly realm of material acquisitions and wealth accumulation, so the metaphysical benefits of expansive kyanite can help Taurus to see beyond the physical plane.
Venus-ruled Taurus loves the concept of love, but may feel most comfortable when it is expressed in a practical, tangible way. Kyanite’s receptive nature brings the ability to embrace universal love beyond external accoutrements, which are fleeting and rarely satisfying.
Taurus is more comfortable with inner security rather than external safety. Kyanite can help temper the strong Taurean traits of anger, frustration and stress. It helps to remove blocks to self-expression that may be the metaphysical causes of throat disease, or neck and shoulder stiffness. Meditating with kyanite near the throat chakra is extremely beneficial to being able to speak one’s truth without alienating or coming off as overly rigid.
Sometimes love presents itself in a way beyond what we are used to, with lessons that are ultimately for our soul’s growth even though it may feel uncomfortable. Working with kyanite can help Taurus energy to embrace the concept of divine love and it appearing in a new and different way.
How to Cleanse and Program Crystals
Crystals are largely comprised of silicon dioxide (SiO2), which is the material used in watches for timekeeping and silicon computer memory chips for storing large quantities of information. Thus, crystals are inherently programmable, and you can set your intentions for what you would like to work through with your stone.
Before working with any crystal, it’s a good practice to smudge (or energetically cleanse ) the stone by passing it through the smoke of a purifying type of incense such as white sage, Palo Santo, or frankincense and myrrh. Just as white sage is used to bless and clear a new home, smudging crystals neutralizes any previous energetic imprints in the stone.
To program your crystal, sit upright comfortably with your stone in your left hand, and place your right hand over the crystal. Take three deep breaths with the intention of attuning with the crystal’s vibration, and state your intentions either in your head, or spoken aloud. Sample intentions are offered below.
Meditation, Intentions and Affirmations with Crystals for Taurus Season
Meditating with crystals during Taurus season can help us stay grounded and dilute any stubborn tendencies. Since we are more prone to overindulgence and acting overly cautious during Taurus season, meditation and yoga are powerful tools that can help us channel those negative emotions into something more productive. To make meditation a daily habit, start by spending five to ten minutes each morning focusing on your breath and working with these Taurus-themed intentions and affirmations for your meditation practice.
I recommend writing down the affirmations below with pen on paper, keeping them beside you as you meditate. Feel free to add your own Taurean themes as you see fit. If you find it challenging to quiet your thoughts as you sit in silence, there are many meditation apps available, such as the Calm app or Headspace. Or, you can search for crystal singing bowl meditation tones or binaural beats on YouTube such as these:
Intention: May I be inspired by universal abundance.
- I am rooted in the earth.
- I channel life force energy.
- I explore my profound inner depths.
- I embody love as an infinite resource.
- I recognize my infinite limitless nature.
- I enjoy adventure and expanding my horizons.
- I embrace my worthiness of abundance in all forms.
Ritual: Taurus Cinnamon Money Magnetism
Taurus is all about your value, personal resources, possessions and self-worth. Aventurine is a stone of drawing unexpected adventures, new opportunities and divine love.
The “Cinnamon Money Magnetism” ritual is a classic practice that can be used any time of year, but is most potent around a full moon or on a Thursday. You will need a dollar bill or other form of paper currency, a piece of green aventurine, cinnamon, and distilled or spring water.
Submerge your green aventurine crystal in a glass container of distilled or spring water for at least 12 hours prior to working this ritual. Placing it near a window for sun and moon vibes helps, too.
- Cleanse your aura with sage, palo santo holy wood, or any type of abundance/money incense, and prepare your sacred space. You can also take a spiritual bath with herbs.
- You can say a prayer for abundance, but don’t attach yourself to a particular dollar amount–rather, focus on the feeling of knowing that all your material needs are met
- Dip your finger in the aventurine water and spread it all over the face side of your dollar bill to dampen it
- Dip your index finger in the aventurine water again, and then into your cinnamon
- Again, feel the abundance of the universe and know that all your needs can be met
- At the top left corner of the dollar bill, draw a line of cinnamon from the top to the bottom, which is symbolic of drawing the energy of abundance toward you
- Repeat five times so there are five vertical lines of cinnamon across your dollar bill
- Fold the bill so the cinnamon stays within the dollar, and keep it in your wallet
- If you have an altar, place the green aventurine on it for at least seven days.
Intention: May I be balanced and whole.
- I trust my intuition.
- I am one with all that is.
- I am worthy of optimum health.
- I understand my place in the universe.
- I am open to all levels of consciousness.
- I responsibly use my freedom of speech.
- I embrace my role as a planetary guardian.
Ritual: Kyanite Metaphysical Meditation
Taurus rules the throat, voice and neck, and kyanite energizes the throat chakra for clear communication without being rigid and unchanging. In your morning meditation, take your piece of raw or tumbled kyanite, lay down and place the stone near your neck. You can use one of the guided or sound meditations recommended above as an audio supplement to your meditation practice.
- Breathe and bring your attention deep into yourself.
- Take three deep breaths in and out, and visualize the kyanite connecting you deep into the center of the earth.
- Feel the energy of the kyanite stone forming a cloak of protection from your throat and enveloping your entire body.
- Continue deep breathing: release your fears and desire for control, and trust that your higher self has your best interest at heart.
- Visualize true unconditional love flowing out from your body and into your entire realm of influence.
- Focus on knowing that you have the ability to communicate your deepest desires while being flexible, without alienating or taking responsibility for others.
- After at least ten minutes of deep breathing and peaceful visualization, bring your attention back to the room you are in and open your eyes.
- Keep your kyanite on your person—in your pocket, purse, or on your work desk—and remember that you are a divine vessel for universal love and acceptance.
As you move throughout your day, remember that you can compassionately empathize and see that other perspectives do not invalidate your own. Remember the presence of your spiritual self and know that you can always trust the universe as you cultivate your own inner security.
